(Glynn) Home Movies . . .

People have asked me, "Glynn, why are you not blogging! What are you up to?"

Well . . . all kinds of things. But, in my spare time, I started a new sport. It's called "Parkour". Incidentally, I recently changed my name to David Belle.

You can see me practicing here:

Nice piece in the San Francisco Chronicle today on the Public Radio Talent Quest. Check out your boy!

[Glynn] A few of my favorite things . . .

What’s in your Ipod?

I love, love, love podcasts. I subscribe to FAR too many. I hope Chuck Mertz , Bee Jellyfish and Rebecca Watson are already on your MP3 player.

But there are a few others I never miss and can’t wait to share.

First, for my science fiction nerds. Steve Eley’s EscapePod may very well be the best pure podcast out there. Each week, he delivers a modern or classic short story, ably read by a large roster of professional-sounding talent.

Radio friends!

What a tremendous ride! Thank you so very, very much for the trip. I was shaking when I received the phone call and have been happily babbling every since. Each of the ten finalists have been wonderfully supportive - it really made the contest a lot of fun.

While I would have loved to meet the whole gang - it was FANTASTIC to actually meet Rebecca and Al and the whole PRX crew. (They're even better looking in person.)

Now I get to make a show!!

I promise you this . . . it's gonna be HOT! Smoking hot! Your radio is about to catch on fire and burn up the drapes.

{Glynn} Snap Judgment: Legal in Lebanon

Submitted by coldkoolin on September 20, 2007 - 4:34pm. ::

First of all I want to thank everyone for the comments on my entry, Snap Judgment.

The concept of a Snap Judgment show comes from a real love of aural storytelling. Especially after having children, I became a big fan of books on tape, podcasts, and other things you can do while cradling a sleeping newborn. To me, most stories have a pivot point, decisions where "the decider" does not always have the ability or time or desire to think slowly and rationally. It could be in a love story, a moment of technological innovation, or a hidden reflex betraying an old distrust.

Crazy things happen when decisions are forced. But that's also where we get a glimpse of the real person. Everyone has one of these stories, and they can put a human face on any subject.

[Glynn] A Cult Reunion

Submitted by coldkoolin on September 9, 2007 - 12:03pm. ::

I have been whiling away my free time lately in the strangest of ways.

Apparently, there will be a “cult reunion”.

I have alluded to growing up in an apocalyptic cult, founded by one Herbert W. Armstrong. The tenants of the organization are too bizarre to expound fully here – but in a nutshell, Jesus was coming back any minute. Before he did, you unbelievers were scheduled to suffer a ghastly fate in the “Great Tribulation”. The Chosen Few (us) were to flee to a Place of Safety and await the return of the LORD. Church elders whispered darkly that our “Place of Safety” would be the caves of Petra on the Syria / Jordan border.

PRTQ: The Movie, Part II . . . Glynn

Back by popular demand, I proudly present:

“PRTQ: The Movie, Part II.”

So many Questers have expressed interest in Mr. Liu (pipa instrumentalist
extraordinaire) – that I am posting a second virtuoso performance.

In the course of researching Tyler Thompson’s involvement with Chinese opera, we stumbled upon Mr Liu, who instructed Tyler’s teacher (Sherlyn Chew).

It’s a multi-generational thing.

[Glynn] Bigfoot

Submitted by coldkoolin on July 19, 2007 - 1:28am. ::

This morning, around 7:30 am, I saw Sasquatch rooting around my backyard. I shouted that eggs would be ready in a minute - but he fled into the foliage. Thank goodness I had my camera.

I figure if I can get him in a studio - I'll have this contest won, no problem.

But since it's doubtful he'll come willingly, I'll need some twine, a bowling ball, a couple fatted pigs, and some volunteers.

Any takers?
