A Central Place To Plug Your Spot!!

Submitted by ed on May 12, 2007 - 10:42pm. ::

As many of you, I have listened to dozens if not hundreds of the Public Radio Talent Quest participants. It seems to be addictive and I don't think it's due to being competitive. In fact it's my belief that all of the entrants in one way or another really have talent and a story they'd love to share. That's what makes listening so addictive; people sharing stories with other people, it's so Americana, almost like setting around the campfire with friends. So it gave me an idea, let's make a central place to post a link to our spots. That way we won't have far to look.
Well anyway it was just a thought, I know Steve will most definitely post his (after all we all know he is the postiest in the hostiest game haha).. As a matter of fact here his is to start things off - http://www.publicradioquest.com/audio/user/2345

Thanks Everyone For Listening

You are right! This may become addicted. And you know what’s great? That every story proves that everyone is different in almost all the ways… so it’s reminding you that you are unique too, and special, and makes you wanna share your story too! I have a pretty nice story about a Debt Settlement… coming up soon, if you wanna hear it!

I'm just trying to get folks thinking about the ways we perceive we have to spend our time that seem to be getting in the way of our happiness and -- above all -- our biggest, brightest hopes and dreams. Maybe even the American Dream (assuming we collectively believe it still exists). Obviously, I didn't have time to get into all this. But I hoped to spark an idea or two in the minds of the many overscheduled who populate our Earth. Are you one of them? Stop by and let me know what you make of the madness... and whether you think I've got the pipes and the hostiness to make it to RII.

There are so many submissions to be listened to… I would like to make one little plea, a simple request to treat others as you would like to be treated. If someone leaves you a comment, it would be an act of reciprocity for you to visit their audio submission and give them a listen, and if so moved, leave them a comment. Remember those that make your day, by letting you know that you have been heard; deserve the same in return from you. After you have processed the audio submissions of those that have listened to you, then you can go back to randomly listening to entries.

Yes, I want you listen to my entry, Timing Is - Everything.

But that's not all I want, no - not by a long shot.

I want you to share your story, your observation, on how Timing matters to you, in your work or play, in your life.

If you have a story to tell, or an experience to share about Time or Timing, leave a comment after my clip. I'll find you and give you a way to send an audio clip to me (you can use my contact e-mail, if you wish).

I will reciprocate and leave a comment about your entry, and vote, if you'd like.

Any material sent to me may be used in my presentations so don't send anything you have already copywrited (copywritten?) unless you want me to use it.

Best of luck with your entries!!!

Thanks for centralizing Ed.
To all who listen to my submission please offer me your thoughts - it is after all why we all do this; to engage society, otherwise it is just masturbatory. Thank you for your time.

All the best,

Please check out my piece.

Public Wave is the hypothetical intro to an investigative public affairs show that I'd love to bring to the air.

My clip isn't two minutes about me (you can check my bio) or my family (you can clink on the link under "homepage") or my career (check out www.dailysouthtown.com). It's not about me at all.

It's about my hostiness, it's about how I want a public affairs show to sound: interesting, hip, relevant, smart. It's about what I think public radio is and what I want it to become.

And it's about pension debt. But it's HIP pension debt.

Here it is:

I know most people reading this probably have their own entry to worry about, but if you're interested in helping support a potential venue for original radio sketch and reality-blurring character interviews, a proposed show looking to attract up-and-comers (and eventually big names) in alternative comedy, music and literature, check out my entry, "After the Fact" at
http://www.publicradioquest.com/audio/user/1975.

Our intention is to create a "Larry Sander's Show"* style show within a show, where the host is the center of a hectic maelstrom featuring borderline celebrity guests, who would be invited to provide some of their own content as well as helping us create a well-rounded radio universe. I've already talked to a lot of participants out there in the forums who would make formidable contributors.

If you've got two minutes, check out http://www.publicradioquest.com/audio/user/1975 , and if you've got two minutes and twenty-two seconds, check out http://www.kibblesmith.com and click the two vertical PRTQ banners to throw a couple affiliates points my way, and watch some strange, unacceptable videos while you're there, to get a feel for the humor I'd love to find a home for on NPR.

Thanks for the plug-space,
Daniel Kibblesmith

Heya,

I never expected to be leaving comments and using the boards here, I signed up at the beginning, submitted my piece on Monday, and came to realize how big a part listening / voting / commenting / message boarding is for this contest. Guess I'm starting to get into it.

ANYHOO -
My piece is a funny little slice of surreality that pokes a bit of fun at the vague "just tell us about yourself" rules for Round One. I learned too late that commercial music was a no-no, so the transitions are not as smooth as originally scripted. You may still get a chuckle, tho. Check it out if you want. Thanks!

Hey Ed and all my fellow TQers!
I was stricken with food poisoning this weekend, and so missed out on all the pluggin' fun...i wonder if i might come late to the party.
My entry is about why dropping out of high school, following the Grateful Dead, becoming a Hare Krishna, then going on to get two master's degrees makes me quite hosty.
Thanks for listening.

Hey Ed,

Good call! I figured there were others thinking like me. Unfortunately this is a contest to find a host, not a musician, so there is little point in playing music, don't you think? I did consider responses like yours though. I got you to listen, which was the objective.

Anyway, my comment was in response to all these submissions I'm listening to and voting on. They are nearly all talk format. aacckk! gag! I see very few that submit a music format as I did. The John Prine thing is really just a prop to audition for the host job. It flew out of my brain, so I went with it. Not enough time for a focus group to determine feasabilty. Thanks for listening and for your comment.

There are certainly a lot of call-in talk show and interview style show ideas on here. I think that our posting-brother Steve even set up a Blog Entry with the title:

THE GUILDS
http://www.publicradioquest.com/node/1111

Last I checked, it covered most of the styles people seem to be posting in.

I don't know what to say.

When you wrote "music please". Well, it sounded like such a great idea, but... when I listened to your 2 minutes again - I was aghast to find it chock-full of nothing BUT talk.

What gives.
