How Stations Can Get Involved with The Talent Quest

The Public Radio Talent Quest is now underway, and stations have a critical role to play.

We're shooting for hundreds if not thousands of entries in Round 1 and we need your help to spread the word. We know your time and energy are valuable.

Here's some of what’s in it for stations:

- Major outreach/visibility opportunities – Imagine a line of talent circling your building waiting to audition.
- A unique chance to surface new, fresh talent locally and nationally.
- Major hiring tool – check the TQ database for talent in your area and post free job listings.
- Significant visibility for emerging local hosts – who on your staff is ready to go national?
- Celebrate hometown talent – convene local efforts to cheer on hometown contestants.
- Access to a database of new and emerging talent in your area.
- New connections with existing and emerging audiences.
- A powerful magnet for local web traffic.

Here are some the different ways stations can be a part of the Public Radio Talent Quest:

Level 1 Partner Station:

* Use of on-air promos – 30-40 spots per week before each round of voting and leading up to the first round submission deadline (TQ provides sample copy and production). A portion of the promo inventory to be voiced by station talent.

Promo schedule includes:

  • Round 1 Opens/Call for Entries – April 10 – 17
  • Round 1 submission deadline – May 7-14
  • Round 1 voting deadline – May 26 – June 2
  • Round 2 voting deadline – July 3 – 10
  • Round 3 voting deadline – August 12 – 19
  • Round 4 voting deadline – September 14 – 23


* Podcast Promos – Embed TQ promos in station podcasts before each round of voting and leading up to the first round submission deadline (TQ provide copy and production).

* Web Promo – Use of TQ banner and web module for length of project. Availability of a limited # of custom web promos ("Hey Austin, this is Mo Rocca...")

* Air Time/Interviews – 2-3 opportunities between April 16 and September 23rd for TQ staff/contestants to appear on-air and discuss the TQ

* Public Talent Calls – Host one open talent call/audition at station or local venue. Possibly provide PR support for local press.

* Outreach – Promote TQ rounds in all station communications – newsletters, e-newsletters, program guides, flyers at public events.

* Localized press release – before each round of voting and leading up to Round 1 submission deadline (TQ provides copy)

* TQ Showcase show – Air a program featuring TQ finalists by date TBD

* Support local entrants – encourage local talent/staff to enter.

* Provide in-kind studio access to TQ finalists

* Consider featuring a TQ finalist on local air – fill in host, pledge drive, etc.

* Level 1 partners will be acknowledged - on the TQ website and in portions of TQ advertising.

Level 2 Partner Stations:

* Use of on-air promos – 30-40 spots per week before each round of voting and leading up to the first round submission deadline (TQ provides sample copy and production). A portion of the promo inventory to be voiced by station talent. See dates of rounds above.

* Web Promo – Use of TQ banner and web module for length of project.

* Air Time/Interviews – 2-3 opportunities between April 16 and September 23rd for TQ staff/contestants to appear on-air and discuss the TQ

* Localized press release – before each round of voting and leading up to Round 1 submission deadline (TQ provide copy)

* Support local entrants – encourage local talent/staff to enter.

Level 3 Partner Stations:

* Use of on-air promos – 20-30 spots per week before each round of voting and leading up to Round 1 submission deadline (TQ provide sample copy and production). A portion of the promo inventory to be voiced by station talent. See dates of rounds above.

* Web Promo – Use of TQ banner and web module for length of project.

* Air Time/Interviews – An opportunity between April 16 and September 23rd for TQ staff/contestants to appear on-air and discuss the TQ

* Outreach – Promote TQ rounds in all station communications – newsletters, e-newsletters, program guides, flyers at public events.

* Support local entrants – encourage local talent/staff to enter.
