Hook me up Komal.

My husband is Pakistani and I listen to a lot of desi music. I love it when classic tunes get set to modern beats especially.

Unfortunately it is hard to get your hands on stuff that is really cool and not cheesy. How can I get ahold of some?

Most of my desi friends prefer the cheesy movie versions of songs...and listen to Hindi movie soundtracks. I have some of that stuff...but I want some of the cooler, edgier stuff that is made for the club.

HELP!

ye the cheesy stuff can get a bit, well...cheesy. you can find some of the new beats online mainly, check me out on myspace (greenstreetgirl) - i think you'll find the music and artists you're looking for. i recently picked up some compilations and new albums while in jackson heights, ny - they've got loads of music shops there and i also found some wonderful rare classic compilations. you know you can always go to the desi areas where you live and go to the indian shops there, most of them have a (small) music section, i'm sure you'll be able to find some gems. i do that here in MA, big up Shalimar Foods & Spices on Mass Ave! - oops - can i do that on here? hey i loved your audio piece, i work at a non-profit too...

Austin doesn't have a lot of shops--we have about 8-9 ethnic grocery stores, but I don't know if they have much music in them.

Next time we go to Houston, I'll see what I can find. Houston has a HUGE desi community and a lot more options for all things desi--clothes, food, jewelry, movies, music, etc.

I'll def. check out your myspace page, yo.

Thanks for the help!
