(Rebecca) Just finished recording Round 2!
I don't want to give away anything before the audio is posted (maybe early next week?), but I'll just say that I had fun and really wish I could have another go at it. I met a lot of super cool people at the local public radio station, got a tour of the studios, and hung out for quite a while afterward just chatting with Mike, the amazingly helpful engineer who recorded me. The funniest thing was finding out that Mike and I have frequented the same dance club in Cambridge (The Phoenix Landing if you must know) and he knows my friend who spins around town.
While I'm checking in here on the blog, I'll also take this time to whine (actually brag, in an odd kind of way) one more time about my trip to get to the station. I don't have a car, and I work fairly far outside Boston, so to get to the station by 1:30pm I had to plan in advance. This morning I rode my bike to a train station about five miles from home, locked it up, and then hopped the train to where I work. Then as usual I had to take a bus from the train station to work. (I could only take half a day as I'm an hourly freelancer...time is money!)
At noon, my coworker friend gave me a lift back to the train station, where I took the train back to where I had parked my bike. I rode about a mile across the river to get to the studio. I managed to make it there 15 minutes early, which ended up being all for nothing since Mike thought I wasn't due until 2pm. Ah, well, at least it's been a gorgeous day for a ride, and let's face it, as reality shows go it's not like I had to eat walrus testicles or anything.
I then rode my bike home, and after posting this I'll be treating myself to a dinner with a friend at a Thai place down the street. I'll be ordering off the vegetarian menu, so probably no walrus balls.
editing in an old pic of the bike (known around town as The Pink Phink), just because!

So many of us have a choc-a-bloc existence with the daily commute, the office/work/ditch/garbage, the reverse commute, then cramming in a little life in a few hours of the evening...
It's always a wistful experience to think of the day's journey you had...

I hope it goes well and look forward to hearing it. At least the extra time meant that you were able to catch your breath... or am I the only one so unfit that I still gasp after riding hard despite hitting the gym 3+ tiems a week?

... just based on your physical efforts!
Walrus balls are, by the way, absolutely delicious.

You rode your bike there - so does this mean you live closer to the radio station than to where you freelance? That's cool. Do you think your ride to the station helped you in any way?
Personally - I find a few miles on the bike helps me get centered, focused and generally clears my mind. (Been scatterbrained lately... maybe I need to ride more.)
Best of luck on this leg.

I love a good bike ride to clear my mind, and it probably did help me relax a bit in this instance. Yes, the station is much closer than my current office...my previous job was just about 4 miles from home and I rode in every day rather than get packed onto the subway. I even rode all winter long and loved it, for the most part.
What kind of bike do you have? I've edited the blog to include a pic of mine, a pink Bianchi road bike I loooooooove. Love.
That could only have helped. Bike riding is moving meditation. Gets those wheels spinning while you stay centered and balanced. Even better, you got extra time to cool down before recording.
My bike's an old Cannondale touring model. Old enough to be old-riginal. If the serial number is to be believed, it was one of the first 1200 they made. Still going strong after 10,000 miles. Maybe I should add a few more on this evening. Thanks for bringing it up.
I have an old (new when I bought it) Hunter Green Univega Alpina - the darned thing is so light I can pick it up with one finger (ok... 2 fingers). Gear levers need some fixing up, but to tell you how I feel about it, a co-worker asked me if he could borrow it (to see if he liked the idea of biking)... I just couldn't bring myself to part with it - even for a weekend.
