(April) chewin' 'em to the quick
Sweet Holy Heloise where does the time go????

It's been weeks of hunching over the laptop, cel phone feeling like it's a growth on the side of my head, getting ready for Round 4.
Research, interviews, editing.
Listening with trusted consiglieri. Kvetching, weeping, tearing of hair and gnashing of teeth.
More interviews, rewrites, more editing.
ENDLESS tracking and retracking the voice overs.
I'm a very bad finalist for not making time to blog, but I've been totally obsessed with getting this right.
Let's talk for a minute about your needs.
You've obviously got access more public radio than one person could listen to in a week. It's all I can think about. I am keenly aware of how much you want something different, and how tricky it is to find the niches. Ketzel Levine's voice is ringing in my head--the thing she said when I first told her about my pitch. "How are you going to make it different from every other show out there." It's getting so I can't get any sleep....
Maybe it's not Ketzel. Maybe it's the repeated plays of the Kronos' Quartet playing Phillip Glass' score for Dracula. I don't know why, but when I put on the minimalists, good things fly out of my brain.
And then.....epiphany. For once in my life, there is no one lurking over my shoulder saying, "Nope. Can't do that. Or that." Suddenly the Id is off and running for the computer.
I don't want to spill the whole thing here, but I promise you it will be new--not involving interviews I mentioned previously. Topical. And there's absolutely nothing like it out there now....
Now let's talk about my needs.
As in, a nice glass of bourbon and a nap.
You've got more talent and craft than is actually required to win here. I say - have the bourbon. Write if you need moral support or sfx.

Awwwww. thanks Rich! Salmon & huckleberries back at ya.
Hey, we all want to win this round, but you know what's been keeping me up late?--What can we make that could actually get funded?
I mean, this round is the basis for the pilot...
Play your best hand now, and then worry about the show concept as tied into to funding possibilities later on. If you come up with a different show idea that demonstrably has a better shot at funding, what's PRX gonna do? Tell you "no?"
