(April) Mille Grazie

"Let me begin by saying I'm looking forward to spending more time with my family."

Maybe I better not say that. I mean, it's true and everything. But Mom'll see it and then I'll be on the hook for Christmas.

"You should know that I'm a Finalist with a drinking problem, and as I enter treatment..."

Nah. They'll never believe it. Mark Foley pretty well wore that one out.

"Talent Quest Nation: I just want to say this, right now, that regardless of what they say about it, I'm gonna keep Checkers."

Wrong. All wrong.

Here's the thing. I need something that tells you what a trip it's been. As the merry-go-round slows down, I'm the kid the carny has to pry off the horse, hollering for one more ride. Standing up here with the other ten was sometimes bumpy. It was challenging. But short of live call-in, it was the most thrilling interaction with listeners I've ever had.

HUGE congrats to the big three. You guys will do us proud. And Watson, we'll always have Paris.

To all who listened and voted, thanks for the ride.

I really am looking forward to spending more time with my family. The Mister's been very patient with me running in & out of the house. It'll be great to start acting like a newlywed. Home-cooked meals have been sorely lacking lately, too.

I'm giving serious consideration to doing my proposed show, Start Making Sense, as a podcast. If you're interested, leave a comment on this page. I'll track you down through your TQ contact email addy, and keep you in the loop.

Please, please, PLEASE remember that people working for your local stations are in it because they love the work. They are not in it for the money. They're working with maybe a tenth of the resources they need to do the job right. And they want new sounds and cool shows as much as you do.

Good night, San Diego, and stay classy.

Coincidently, I'm listening to the Talking Head's “Girlfriend is Better” right now. Yes, that's the track were David Byrne tells you to STOP Making Sense at the end of the track. Okay, so that may not mean anything or really be that much of a coincidence, but I thought it was fun to say. In all seriousness, I'm bummed you didn't make the final three. I thought you were a lock (heck, I guessed right with my other two finalist picks and didn't jinx them). Hopefully, my “winking” comparisons were not the reason you did not make it. I loved the Start Making Sense concept. Let me [us/everyone] know when [if] you do the Podcast. I look forward to some sketch comedy and insight on my daily listening menu. Regards, -Rev.

have more for us in the future. Those of us not in Oregon can only wait and see. Please put me on the loop list for a Start Making Sense podcast.

Dear April, After listening to hundreds of entries in round 1, you were actually the only voice I knew going into round 2. The random voting resulted in my not hearing any of the others, as good as they were, particularly as they weren't very involved at the beginning with the chat portion of this contest. I've been voting for you all along, and really hope you go with your podcast idea. Let me know! Great work. Portland would have missed you too much, I'm sure, to let you win this round. All the best, Jill

Lovely to have hung with you these past months. Someday soon I´ll appear at your door with a bottle of bourbon and we´ll get completely roostered and have a few yacks about all this. Until then...

I'm with all the other commenters so far. I'd love to hear your show one way or another. I was brought here by Rebecca, and I'm jazzed she won, but I was really hopping you'd be there as well.

Really hope to hear more from you.

Do the show. Seriously. And do it solo. You have plenty to say. (But keep me in the loop either way.) Thanks for being so professional. And talented. And smart. Happy Honeymooning.

Ditto on both the posts. This is not the end of the road and you have a great premise, but it will take time. Also, with your experience and the support system you have, your show will go through. I want updates about your podcast or show so I can put it in my collection on Facebook.

I'm stunned at (some of) the final choices - then again, I was pretty surprised by some of the finalists anyway, but I never suspected that you wouldn't be in the final three. Skip the podcast and just go make your own pilot and start shopping it around. You are by far the most polished and professional presenter and most skilled interviewer... use that to make a killer demo that has as much input as you can get to refine the content concept (cause I think that can be the only reason you weren't in the final three).

Heck, perhaps your radio station has a slot at 3 am (to start with... prime time later) that needs a cheerful voice and new show. I hope to keep hearing you - I'll stay tuned...
