[Glynn] A few of my favorite things . . .
What’s in your Ipod?
I love, love, love podcasts. I subscribe to FAR too many. I hope Chuck Mertz , Bee Jellyfish and Rebecca Watson are already on your MP3 player.
But there are a few others I never miss and can’t wait to share.
First, for my science fiction nerds. Steve Eley’s EscapePod may very well be the best pure podcast out there. Each week, he delivers a modern or classic short story, ably read by a large roster of professional-sounding talent.
How do I stay so hip and cool (and good-looking)? With a little help from my Chicago boyz on the The Daily Purge. So go git your groove on and tune into their party. What's more, they constantly update a blog to go with online antics. Two for one.
Patrick E. McLean gets the award for stunt writing. About a year ago, he wrote, produced, and voiced a new story every week for a year - all by HIMSELF! Whoa. His podcast is called The Seanachai (which is a Gaelic word for storyteller), and I especially recommend his “How To Succeed In Evil” series.
The TED conference is a big fancy meeting for big fancy folk (actually, some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers) challenged to give the talk of their lives in only 18 minutes. TEDtalks makes some of the best of these performances available for free. Over 150 presentations. I kid you not, if you want real brain food - look no further. . .
As Brazil has emerged as the center for all that is good in music, Gilles Peterson in Brazil is a great guide to the raw street sounds of Baile Funk and Brazilian Hip-Hop mashing into contemporary Samba and Bahian percussion. A fantastic series.
Do you just want to have a great time and enjoy the ride? It wouldn’t be right if I forgot the King of Podcasts, Scott Sigler. Scott was one of the first to really explore the power of podcasting - and he remains one of the best. Amazingly prolific, Scott has serialized several horror novels into podcast form. EarthCore, Ancestor, and Infection all deliver on Scott’s promise to provide, “lots and LOTS of violence”. Definitely not for the squeamish. Scott has a new trick in his goodie bag - and it drops at midnight on Halloween. It’s called Nocturnal, and your Momma most certainly doesn't want you listening to this filth.
Let me know what you think . . .
Dear Glynn,
I read about you and this contest today in SF Chronicle and thought my story might be of interest for Snap Judgement...
Basically, I had a brief contact with a tourist while hiking in the Himalaya, which inspired me to found an organization dedicated to saving endangered red panda in the wild, The Red Panda Project..www.redpandaproject.org.
Here is the link to the my story and a podcast of it on the Social Edge...

I am in the Bay area...Mountain View and would love to talk more if it is of interest.
